I used to store my slides sorted by Railroad and numerically. I gave
up on this 6 years ago when I got my first computer. I now store my
slides in the metal slide boxes manufactured by Logan. I now store
everything in the order it was shot indexed by which year it was shot
in. I use a data base in the computer to keep track of everything. This
helps me keep track of whats where and is an easy way to find things.
Using the data base I catalog slides with the basic information I use
when shooting- Roll #, Slide#, RR & Eqpt #, Location,State, Date, Time,
Film type, and if I am on a trip that info goes into a Special field.
This way if I want to find a particular slide, all I have to do is give
the computer the variables that I am looking for- Example CNW at Boone
IA. The data base will tell me where every slide that I shot on the CNW
at Boone Iowa.
So far this system has worked great. The only bad thing about it is, if
you don't keep the info backed up and your system crashes, you did a lot
of work for nothing!!
