I am one of the traditional train shooters who organizes everything by RR, then in numeric order by lead unit #, followed by cabooses, passenger cars, freight cars then misc. shots of people and other things that have some bearing on that particular rr. I used to be a heavy slide trader and this is one way of organizing slides that you took plus ones that you've traded for. Most heavy traders label their slides in a way that fits into this system quite nicely. Foreign power in strange places? It gets filed under that particular road, with a notation on the slide of where it is. For example, in my DM&IR file, a road I've never visited, I have a great sequence following a DM&IR unit on the point of an L&N freight up the Monon in Indiana. All the slides are noted to be in a place far from DM&IR-land...but it's filed under DM&IR. I keep a running tally of "killer" shots in each rr, in case I ever want to do a slide show. For example, if someone wants to see F45s, I can look on my list, pull out a dozen action or roster shots from BN, Santa Fe, MRL, etc., that are on this list. If someone wants to see, say, a Montana trip from 1988, I find the notebook from that trip, pull the slides I shot (according to lead unit #), and put a show together that way. There are probably better ways, but I have been doing this for 20 years and it seems to work well. I would go crazy trying to computerize this. If I ever am laid up in a long hospital stay, I might give it some thought, but right now, I'm not about to change. I keep them in metal Logan #200 boxes and have about 65 of these boxes. --> SPORRS: Serious Photographers of Railroad Related Subjects X-Mozilla-Status: 0001 Content-Length: 1372
