Just remember to have ALL of the stuff on. One well known west coast railfan
walked into the San Bernardino shops (when there were San Bernardino shops) to
photograph the units being painted in the warbonnet colors. He had on the
regulation hard hat but was wearing sneakers. He got booted out very quickly
and made a name for himself that wasn't very agreeable to getting future
access. When ever I'm in a yard its with full permission and I have on all of
the regulation equipment. In fact the last time I was at Barstow to do an
article no one questioned me even though I was alone and I asked one of the
employees why since I had on an SP hard hat. He said that even though I was
walking around with three cameras strapped around my neck as long as I had the
hard hat and safety shoes they figured I was there on some sort of official
business.
