Dear John;

I didn't say I endorsed this kind of behavior. I was noting that
items included in the "essentials" list, safety glasses, hard hat,
work boots etcetera were items people use to disguise the fact
they are railfans (hence "stealth" railfans). I then proceeded
to give a couple of colorfull examples.

I think the vast majority of railway photographers respect private
property and "No Trespassing" signs. In any avocation, there is
lunatic fringe that will do anything. In thirty plus years of
railway photography, I've observed more than a few of these.

Personally, as a railroad employee, when photographing I respect
other railroads property, and stay away from work areas. I do not
use stealth tactics. I look like what I am, a middle aged Canadian
on vacation. It must work, in all those years, perhaps half a dozen
times I've encountered hostility for railway management & employees.

My employer knows I photograph trains . The Canadian Pacific Railway
could care less what I do with my spare time, just as long as I'm
there to drive their trains on their time (and sober).

I don't intrude on their space, and they don't on mine.
I enjoy my job. I enjoy my hobby
