I agree with Gary on the items below. It does not utilize the XREF as great as HydraCAD. When you have multiple changes to an autoCAD background during a large ongoing project, it can be a real pain. The other area where HydraCAD excels is text cleanup. The text cleanup on a "cut up" job in AutoSprink can be a real chore. However, on many of these larger projects I have seen recently, the GC is using NavisWorks to coordinate in 3D. HydraCAD does not do well with 3D. Whereas, the AutoSprink is built on 3D. So, you have the trade.
I still prefer AutoSprink over the others. It has its shortcomings just like all of the others. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Gary Stites Sent: Wednesday, February 14, 2007 12:12 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: Design software I have used both programs extensively. AutoSPRINK as a stand alone product is AWESOME. But after you wade through the flash, I have found a few items to talk about. The problem is, it is not AutoCAD. The projects I am involved with require me to upload dwg's of my progress and download dwg's of the latest bulletins for coordination. Under these conditions, converting AutoSPRINK drawings to dwg's once a week is a pain. The listing reports have very few options such as font size etc. This creates a problem with the fab shops I use. They (fab shop) do not like the listing reports from AutoSPRINK as they have a guy with cutting oil all over his gloves trying to read a size 9 font. This software also requires a pretty hefty computer with killer graphics card. Hydra-CAD is AutoCAD based and although not nearly as flashy and impressive it is much more flexible to use in a "team" situation. For smaller projects I would prefer AutoSPRINK, but on larger projects that require ongoing meetings and coordination, I would suggest something based on ACAD.
