I am assuming that the channels open to the adjacent concealed space
that is protected - right? So we are dealing with unprotected
channels over the 800 sf area. Since the objective of the 3,000 sf RA
is to account for fire breaking out of a unprotected concealed space
in more than one location, the surrounding protected space should
enter the fray right away. The problem is running down a channel
between heads with a lot of energy from the unprotected area. A
water curtain around the area would reduce the concern somewhat.
What say yea AHJ's?
Why not fill the channels with insulation? If the gyp is not
DIRECTLY attached to the bottom chord (no C-channel between chord and
gyp), then you have to have at least 3-1/2 inches of insulation anyways.

need to
calculate a full 3000 sq ft in this project for the raised area?
