I suspect they'll burn with much greater vigor due to the glue/resin you pointed out. On the larger ones, you probably WON'T have the reduction in combustion due to charring (or at least not nearly as much) so it won't be that good old Heavy Timber caliber construction. On the 2x (the focus of this issue), it's probably immaterial.

Just one Mfg. Trus Joist McMillan now WWW.ilevel.com has "Microllam" LVL Beams, "Parallam" PSL Beams, "Timberstrand" LSL Beams. All of these can be used in place of conventional "Solid Wood" framing in differing circumstances, and LP, Wearhouser, BMC and others have their own branding of similar products. All contain resin or glue to hold otherwise small veneers or fiber structures together that create the larger solid wood structure. As you say if the concern is the thin I joist web, these solid elements will probably hold up better than steel, similar to real wood in a fire.

The Glu-lam's I'm familiar with use 2xs glued together. What other assembly types are out there?
