In my case the water on the floor and in the bucket is an indication of a  seat 
problem not an environment problem like Cl or salt.

I appreciate the ideas and feedback.  I'll be out there later this week to get 
a better sense of the scope of the problem.

If it is green, that is common in this area and is not an indication of a leak 
but of corrosion due to one of many possible environmental factors, humidity, 
salt or other elements/chemicals in the air etc.

Incidentally though, we are having issues with Viking heads corroding 
prematurely.

I think the statistic is 1:16m heads leak. Could be 13m. So yes, It's
possible and has occurred often enough that there is a statistic.
Usual culprit is fitters banging heads around in a  bucket and the
result might not show up for years.
