Chris: I believe Ron is right that Viking never made sprinklers with O-ring seals in the waterway. When they started making glass bulb, QR sprinklers, they went with the Belleville spring seal, which was the type of seal that replaced the O-ring seal in the Central sprinklers. The oldest of their 8 mm bulb sprinklers that I have on my desk is 1988 and it also has the BV seal. Could your sprinkler have been exposed to freezing temps? I have seen sprinklers with BV seals that were frozen, the seal displaced, and then dribbled when the thaw happened. The seal is a thin piece of Mylar (or generic equivalent, I believe) and it bulges out away from the spring. There are other mfrs that made O-ring sealed waterways. Go to UL's website and look around, or contact me off forum. To my knowledge only Central and a limited number of Gem and Star sprinklers were recalled due to O-ring problems.

I know about the recall on Central heads so that's not the question. The question is - are there other brands that are "rusting" and leaking from the seat? I've got a Viking head from 1984 (might be a model XHH) that was leaking. It has a flat cap much like the Central o-ring heads. It has a green "rust" line around the seat. Is there other brands with o-ring, were they subject to recall? Is the leaking caused by an o-ring, maybe I'm mixing two different issues? Chris Cahill, P.E.
