What is the FPE's argument against it?

Subject: Beam obstruction rules

Forum,

I have a question regarding beam obstruction rules for standard spray
uprights.

I have a light hazard project that has 15" deep beams. The first beam is 9'
from the wall and the next beam is 17' away from beam #1. If I space my
first head 5' away from beam #1 so that it is not an obstruction (per table
8.6.5.1.2-NFPA 13, 2007 ed), can my next head be 15' from head #1? This is
not supposed to be a trick question but I have a disagreement with an FPE on
this.

Thanks for your insight on this one.

Subject: L'il Abner-Mattress Tester

Back in 2007 the CPSC required a fire-resistant outer (fabric) shell on all
mattresses and box springs for sale in the USA.

Is anyone familiar with this to be able to tell if this reduces the
hazardous classification of the foam when stored in a retail store stockroom
to 12' high? Stored on floor, flat, as if prepared for a princess and a pea.

Owner would prefer not to take .2/1500 to .6 for obvious reasons, one being
tenant fitout of a portion of an existing retail center.
