Good points.
1) They took the word "handled" and left only "stored"
2) Some of the canopies are large, but they only cover the raised
platform and hang over the trucks a few feet to keep things dry while
unloading.
3) Because I don't have the authority to make someone add protection
where it isn't unless I am showing the code that references it.
Could I be missing something here or is this a case of the committee
leaving a huge hole they did not intend to leave?

As long as the fire knows the difference between it being stored or not
I don't see the problem. IF it can be stored there for any period of
time, why wouldn't you anticipate that a fire can start at any time and
protect it appropriately?

Subject: Re: 2010 handling and storage of combustibles
I have a variety I am looking at. Most of them are overhangs over
loading docks varying from 6' wide x 12' long to 18' wide and 40-50'
long.
How long does something have to sit on a dock to be considered stored? 4
hrs? 8 hrs? overnight?

Can someone please look in the 2010 handbook and tell me what the
intent of 8.15.7.1, 2 and 5 is? According to the way I read it -
.1 states that all overhangs over 4' wide need protection UNLESS
.2,.3 or .4 are met.
.2 states that protection can be omitted if the overhang is over 4'
wide and made of Non-comb material
.5 states that protection is required if the overhang is OVER 2' wide
and combustible materials are STORED
Therefore, if you have a noncombustible canopy that is over 4'-0"
wide where combustibles are loaded and unloaded but not stored then
protection is not required regardless of the size of the overhang?
So now we could have a canopy that covers thousands of square feet
and yet materials are not ever "stored" under them and protection is not
required?
