Here are the issues you should address to the owner. 1. what type of forklift are you using? (Not all elect forklifts are created equal) 2. will you be installing a charging rack, to charge one set of batteries while the other ones in the lift are in use? (a common practice is to have spare batteries charging, so when a lift gets "Low Charge" warnings, the operator goes to the battery room and switches batteries. If they are only charging the batteries located in the trucks, you don't have the storage issue.) 3. what is the config. Of the charging rack? (if they have one they can be 1, 2 or three levels high, the batteries in lift trucks typically are like 36"x18"x48"high, normally enclosed in a metal case with power quick couplers, you'll have rack storage of group A plastics over 5' high.) 4. Is the room vented per NFPA requirements? (Lead acid batteries produce hydrogen when charging, most battery charging stations have an explosion proof exhaust fan provided by the MPE, these are rarely shown on drawings but typically run right over the charging area and are an obstruction to the sprinklers. They also quite often have an overhead door to the outside, to allow the service company to retrieve the lifts for service.)
Then use you best judgment. Remember 13 is the Min. to provide any reasonable increase, that doesn't cost an excessive amount will rarely get you in trouble. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Brian Harris Sent: Thursday, September 09, 2010 8:24 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: Commodity Question Chris- It's not an issue of getting the system to work; I just wanted to make sure that my line of thinking wasn't way out of wack....
