Heres exactly why we need sprinklers in homes ! Sure this is an existing home not subject to the IRC however new homes will be built without sprinklers that will eventually become existing homes and these tragedies will occur over and over again.
Our legislators need to come and see the carnage firsthand, see what our firefighters witnessed this sad day. I wouldn't soon forget it. Home Fire Sprinklers Now ! -------------------------- MIDDLETOWN, NJ - Four adults have been confirmed dead after an early-morning house fire in the Fairview section of Middletown, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. Officials are at the scene and investigating the fire, which reached six alarms, First Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said this morning. The blaze was reported around 3 a.m., police said. Neighbor Ted Magee says the father of the family was the only one to escape. Magee says his wife heard the man cry out, "My wife! My daughter! Somebody help us!" At least two sides of the two-story, single-family house at 135 Statesir Place and the roof show extensive damage and the interior appears gutted. The victims' names have not been released. Phyllis Nitti, 48, who lives across the street, said she was woken around 3 a.m. by the sound of firetrucks. "I looked outside and the whole house was on fire. It was devastating," she said. "I never saw anything like this before in my life." She believed the fire started on the lower level of the home. She recalled always seeing the family walking their dog on the street. "They're very nice people," she said. "This is just terrible." The home is in a tree-lined, middle-class neighborhood east of Route 35 and just north of Red Bank, in southern Middletown's Fairview section. The house is between Pine and Chestnut streets, and the block is closed to traffic. Firefighters remained at the scene around 8 a.m., along with Middletown police and New Jersey Natural Gas crews, as the bodies of the victims were brought out of the home. A New Jersey Natural Gas spokesman said the company was called at 3:20 a.m. and had the gas shut off by 3:35 a.m. A crew late this morning was digging up a gas connector in the front yard. The fire does not appear to have spread to any other homes. Michelle Ozut, 17, who also lives across the street, said she knew the family from parties they would attend together at another neighbor's house. She said they were friendly, always waving to neighbors, but otherwise kept to themselves http://www.app.com/article/20110419/NJNEWS/110419008/Middletown-house-fire-l eaves-four-dead?odyssey=mod|breaking|text|Frontpage John Drucker Fire Protection Subcode Official Red Bank, New Jersey Firefighter-Station 8 Middletown Township Fire Department Middletown Township, NJ _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://fireball.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field)
