Non-Quell licensees can buy Tyco K17 SSU's in other than 286*F temperatures.
If your building is under 35', you might look at the new extended listings Tyco
just issued for their EC25 as a result of some testing at FM last summer.
We've got a storage job where the cost is dramatically lower than it would have
been with ESFRs, and for the Group A unexpanded commodity we're protecting,
they're aces.
Two rows per bay in 25' bays, try that with ESFRs :)

If you don't have a need for the upright ESFR, the pendent version is cheaper
and more efficient.

One reason to use ESFR uprights is if the system uses raw water the return
bends can be avoided. They are more expensive than K17 pendents. Tyco also
makes the K17 Ultra used on Quell systems. They cost $10 more than the standard
K17 ESFR but have a chrome deflector, otherwise they are identical. I think
Viking makes a K17 upright as well.

I haven't used them either, but I did do some light reading on the topic
recently;

Cons: must be raised (sprig's or candle sticks) above piping 3" and larger

Pro: eliminate some obstruction rules vs pendent ESFR heads
Customer gains more storage room (sprinkler head in upright position vs
pendent)

Just a few comments...

Subject: Up-Right ESFR K17 AH

I Found an Up-Right ESFR K17 Tyco,. but..

Does anyone know when can I use It?,.. if the proper branch line could be an
obstruction.

Normally or never I have used an Esfr Up-right.
