Be very careful with any type of plastic pipe passing under a foundation. The
loads on the pipe from the foundation can cause deflection or collapse of the
pipe depending on conditions.

If you have to pass under a foundation with plastic it is not uncommon and
often recommended to install a ductile or some sort of steel carrier pipe below
and a few feet beyond the foundation for the plastic to run in.

You can get the structural engineer to provide loading information and then
make a decision on depth of cover or other provisions needed to run below any
significant structural element.

Subject: Underground Pipe Material

When underground pipe passes under a foundation and stubs up into a
building, does the pipe have to be Ductile Iron?  I know that's all I've
ever seen, but can C900 PVC pipe be used?

I've browsed through the International Plumbing Code and didn't find any
discussions about this situation.

Thanks,
