With MEPCAD (AutoSPRINK) we can set each piece of pipe to be wet or dry;
then you select the pipe and ask it to show pipe volumes. It will only show
the volumes of the selected pipe and will separate wet and dry. To be sure
you have all of the pipe set right, simply select all that is supposed to be
dry and it should show only dry volume and vice versa for wet.

So easy and nice.

B. Always size to the actual system pipe volume. This will be different
from the gpm required in the calc, and I have found with both SprinkCAD and
HydraCAD (don't know about MEPCAD or any others since I haven't worked with
em) that the system volume given needs to be checked. They both provide an
answer, but not necessarily always an accurate one.

Subject: Today's Challenge question - Sizing Air compressors

Ok, so for today here it is:

When sizing a system air compressor for a dry or preaction system you size
it based on:

(a) the volume that is shown on the hydraulic calculation provides,

(b) a takeoff of the piping and determine volume of the entire system from
the end head back to the system valve.
