We find that we have to sprinkler most of these. The last one we sat down with the AHJ and walked through and he agreed that we didn't need to. After submittal the hospitals insurance company came back and mandated it anyway, so another variable to keep in mind. We do a lot of work in cold country but try to avoid the heat tape at all costs. Expensive, limited life and quite honestly just not experienced with it. We have however learned a lot about tenting the pipe in those tough situations.
