I don't think there are any solutions that aren't "performance engineered" to this one. FM has in the past allowed us to cover this situation by providing sprinklers at minimum spacing over the cabinet (ie 6x6) along with a "bumper" to maintain some air space between them when closed (4" if memory serves), basically it allows "normal" sprinkler coverage into the open files in any open/closed configuration and still can get water on a closed file at least to keep the fire somewhat in check.

The top of the file cabinets are within 18" of the finish ceiling (14" to be exact). Is anyone familiar with a sprinkler head that permits closer than 18" clearance? or a head with a spray pattern similar to the Tyco's CC1 and CC2 sprinklers that are not specific application sprinkler? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
