However, the local building code requires the sprinklering of "porches and balconies" notwithstanding the 13R permission for deletion. So say it is a 13 building. This building has a portico or porte cochere near the main entrance of the building, which is not attached to the building. I don't know the exact clearance between the two structures, but for argument sake, say they are 3 feet apart. The contractor claims the portico is not attached to the building, so doesn't need to be sprinklered. Any views from the forum?
