It could have originally incorporated some light or ordinary hazard space in
addition to the extra. It could also have been set up using FM system size
limits (60ksf).

Subject: General Storage

AFSA Forums:

I want to clear up a question that has been bothering me since looking at plans
for an addition to an existing warehouse. The project is a plastic
manufacturing and warehousing facility of non-combustible steel bar joist
construction. The storage height is limited to 8' max. The design layout is
CMSA VK580, 16.8K sprinklers spaced at 100 sq. ft . The design density is
.45 / 2500 sq. ft.

My question is this; according to figure 11.2.3.1.1 this is a Ex Haz Grp II
density and by my interpretation, the overhead system should be limited to
40,000 sq. ft. total area. However, the existing system that was done by
another contractor covers 50,000 sq ft. Have I been looking at this wrong all
these years since 231-C was incorporated into NFPA-13? Is storage of PVC
plastic commodities to 8' an Ord Haz Grp II occupancy?

Thanks,
