So, here’s a related question I’ve been pondering: What if you have Wood Joist Construction (technically combustible obstructed, right?) but the depth of the wood members is relatively short (like 2x6s or something)… are you prohibited from using ESFR heads?
It seems strange that you wouldn’t be able to use them in that case, since you would be able to maintain the appropriate deflector distance (up to 18” from deck is allowable for some ESFRs) and there would be no actual obstruction to the sprinklers.
