We're working on a maintenance warehouse for a community college, set on a very
large campus with lots of landscape. They are combining landscape and
maintenance departments, so supplies range from grounds-keeping to whatever
they need in the built environment, from fertilizers and athletic field marking
paints to asphaltic coatings to sanitizers and clarifiers for landscape (higher
volumes of pool chems for aquatics center not to be stored here), adhesives,
solvents, lubricants, and low grade stuff like construction materials and
hardware. There will also be 5 gallon latex paint buckets ("a few"), and 7-10
containers of gasoline and pre-mixed fuels not exceeding 35 gallons total.
Only fertilizers and seed are in larger quantities, bagged on pallets with a
pallet here and a pallet there, otherwise products are in consumer-sized
packaging. Commodities will only be present in exempt amounts and while a
few are highly reactive, except for fuels and solvents none are flammable
liquids.
Individually, there's not any one compelling hazard that defines the storage
but taken together we have some kinda' fire load and would value opinions on
what kinda' fire load that is. I'm leaning toward EH2 because ... well,
because I'm lazy. Water pressure's okay, building isn't that very big (less
than 8,000 sq. ft.) and max roof height is 17'. We're assuming rack storage
(since they aren't going to have a fixture plan before we have to submit) and a
max height of 15'. If anyone's got the time to throw a dart at this
equation, I'd appreciate the input.
