prompted by Anthony Carrisoza, I looked in the 2019 Handbook edition of NFPA 20, and found this item in ยง4.16.9.2(2):

 * /Where the authority having jurisdiction requires positive pressure
   to be maintained on////the suction piping, *_a pressure sensing
   line_* for a low suction pressure control, *_specifically
   _*//*_listed for fire pump service_*, shall be permitted to be
   connected to the suction piping./
