Basic server install is for free, but if you want to stream to your phone, it is $12 a year. http://www.subsonic.org/pages/premium.jsp This project is kind of strange, it is run by a single developer who does not accept patches or contributions and went thru few iterations of support model for the developer. It was taken from Open Source to Closed Source couple of year ago. When it was still Open Source, I have donated $12 or so and got life time premium which is still valid. Given the amount of code that this fellow wrote, I was happy to do that. Android client player will cost you one time under $10 or so. If the support model for developer is not to your liking, there are number of forks that are for free, for example https://github.com/Libresonic/libresonic, but you need to tinker with the installation a little bit more.
