Yes, I did research before I bought the Orbi with these devices in mind
and thought it would work.  Hard wiring is not really an option in this
case.  

On other modems there was a setting in the web interface to tell them to
recognise older wireless protocols, “g,” “n,” etc and that fixed it.  

I know I am not speaking precisely but I think it has to do with the ax,
ac part of things...
