which means it will be in charge of allocating ip addresses for every

Dumb access point on other hand with only "bridge" it's wifi network
with wired lan it connects to (in your case tmobile one)

So you really want tmobile router act as router(with modem etc) so it
sorts out dhcp (ip addresses) NAT and firewall and your orbi as wifi
access point (mesh)
Like I said I'm not familiar with mesh but I assume it should be
possible to set it without dhcp..

Usually on dumb access point you set its ip as static address from pool
and same subnet of you main router assigns and use main router ip as
your AP gateway IP.. 

If orbi does not allow to us it like that, then alternative would be to
use tmobile as modem only or router in DMZ. In this case your orbi will
assign IP addresses etc
