SOLUTION!! I was about to do a backup restore to get my working LMS8.2.0
back again. But first I decided to read this thread again when I hit
upon the idea that LMS was not able to connect to the webnet/interweb.
That brought back to my declining memory all of the times that I read
the suggestions to check the antivirus/security software when problems
occurred. Since I had not changed mine recently (Microsoft Security
Essentials), and LMS8.2.0 had no problems with it, I decided to add LMS
to my excluded processes. LMS8.2.1 now worked with no of the problems I
encountered. And updating to LMS8.3 is also working. Evidently the
changes in LMS8.2.1/8.3 triggered something in MSE.

But now that LMS is working I have the following question. Is allowing
the MSE exclusion of LMS putting my system at risk by allowing hackers
to access my system?

Thanks everyone,

EEYORE
