No, with SoftSqueeze you definitely need the computer on because it's a
computer program.  :-)  You don't have to have your SlimServer computer
on though, but you do need to run SoftSqueeze on a computer.

>From SlimServer, you should be able to run it just by going to Help -
SoftSqueeze.  This will check if you have the right version of Java
installed and the next checkbox will check for a new SoftSqueeze
version, download a new one if required, and run it.

You can do this from any PC that's able to access SlimServer. 
SoftSqueeze is available separately but I find this is the easiest way
to run it.
