perhps i was unclear, although this was not the only point i made...

i ran the setup for the 7.3.2 beta on my parents XP machine.  during
setup, it asks you to create a SN account and link/sync it to SC. 
thats what i was trying to do...  as i recall, during SC setup, i was
able to make an account, perhaps only an "unactivated" one, at SN, and
be "in" SN to whatever degree, but i couldn't get SC during setup or
after setp to accept this login info as valid.

so, i wasn't trying to setup SN first, i was following SC's directions.
