Dopey or not, it's how it's always been, and I'm amazed that someone
who's been around here as long as you doesn't know it! The question's
asked at least a couple of times a day :)

The only way to setup an SBR without an SBC is using Net::UDAP, which
is unsupported (and whilst it works OK for most people I personally had
trouble with it). The most obvious reason is that without a screen or a
remote it's quite hard to do the setup process! It could default to
DHCP or whatever, but what if you don't have a DHCP server? Suddenly it
gets a lot harder than if you just say "not supported".
