The X terminal (an X device with a monitor, ram, keyboard, CPU and just
runs an X server locally... not the xterm shell) does *not* have a hard
drive.

When you turn on a configured X terminal, it pops you up with a list of
hosts you can select. This is called a "Chooser".

When you log in, you are actually running across the network to the remote
system.

You know in linux when you do "init 5" you get a login/password screen?
Well - with an X terminal, a remote server supplys that login/password
screen "across the network" to the X terminal.

Once you login, xauth is setup for the X Server Software running on your X
Terminal and the X applications display back to the Terminal.

I was just making a guess as to what this person was referring too when he
spoke of using SSH with CDE, gnome or KDE. It sounds like I may not be on
the same track as he was talking about.
