The wheel base and the boiler are nearly spot on.
Some of the new skills I should be learning are
turning a new stack, bending the sheet metal,
building a boiler jacket, more practice hard
soldering.
Bending the sheet metal is not that hard if you
can find a friend or a shop with a metal break and
roller. I fabricated a new cab and saddle tank
from shet brass without much difficulty. You will
need a Oxy/Acytlene torch to braze it together
though. The smaller propane tources wont handle it.
MISSING QUESTION: How close to the prototype do
you need it to be? If you can't get the info, are
you willing to 'wing it'?
SO HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS:
What are some suggestions on building some valve
gear to make it look like Henschel valve gear
(non-operational like Frank S)?
I'd make a detailed drawing (CADSTD is a nice
shareware program) and send it somewhere to have
it laser cut out of Stainless. You will either
need to rivit it together or drill and tap for
some small bolts. You may be able to fake it
using a value gear from another engine, like a
Roundhouse SAMMIE or similair. You could order it
as a part. You could try the Aster catalog as well.
What could the original colors be? This was a
quarry / mining engine.
If you can't find a reference to a color picture
or description that includes clor, look at similar
engines in the country or region, hemisphere, etc.
If all else fails, pick your favorite, who's
gonna tell you your wrong? ;)
How can I replicate the plates on the side tanks
when I have no idea what was on them originally.
See above answer. Most plates are so small that
you can't readily read them anyway, so find one
that is close and use it. Look in the Aster
catalog for european prototype plates.
