The RAM is definitely the thing to upgrade, leave the cache as is.
You will need to open the computer up and see if 2 or 3 DIMM slots
are in use. If there are 2 slots, buy a final 64MB DIMM (for $30 at
OWC
<http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?Model=63&Type=Memory&TI=3240>)
and max the RAM at 160. If all 3 slots are used, you will have to
consider the upgrade carefully, because you will have to replace 1 or
2 of the existing 32MB DIMMs with 64MB DIMMs, with each replacement
netting a 32MB increase in memory. Selling the DIMMs would seem to
be a non starter with the current retail price of $19 at OWC. As
for HD, watch carefully for a deal on a 20Gig 7200RPM drive with a
2MB cache, and buy it. You should be able to buy one for less than
$80 and maybe down to $60. With these two upgrades the SM will
remain serviceable and usable for quite some time to come.
