It's not going to happen.  OS 8 will run quite fast, and with the 8.1 update
it supports HFS+ formatting, important for larger hard drives.  I found the
most stable was 8.5.1 or 8.6 which is also the cut-off point for a lot of
newer software.  Skip 9.0x, but 9.1 runs fine.  It's slow though, without a
G3 accelerator.
