To be 100% accurate, some SM computers shipped with a CD-ROM that Apple's drivers can address. Most computers, mine included, shipped with either a Hitachi or Teac drive that are not compatible with Apple's drivers. You can check Motorola's SM site http://www.mcg.mot.com/starmax under the installing OS 8 instructions to see which CD-ROM you have. One other thing to consider, since you bought the computer used, the original drive could have been replaced with an Apple compatible Matsushita drive.
