This is better but still slower that I'd expect;

Alex Wolf gets 20FPS on a GeForce 2 (compared to ~10 FPS pre-merge)
and I doubt the Atom's GPU is slower. Most likely we have a
performance issue specific to that GPU. Unfortunately I can't do much
with that without directly working with it. (I have a newer Intel
Sandy Bridge GPU, and I get 60 FPS there - blocked by vsync)
Timothy Reaves reported low FPS (~30) on his Mac, but he's re-checking that
after changes/in release mode.

I have more optimization ideas, but it's pretty much hit and miss
without knowing
what is the bottleneck on a particular machine.
