hi
slate is quite different to work than limestone etc. It
cleaves across the bed line, and is consequently quite
brittle. It can be cut easily though with angle grinder,
especially with diamond blade; if not too think can be
cut with hack saw. Can be further worked with files etc.
Cumbrian slate is probably tougher to work than Welsh
slate.
I letter cut into slate - it is perfect for this - hence
it is used a lot for plaques etc.
