I am not exactly a carver but I have been a stonemason
for 22 years. My Apprenticeship Program consists of
digging footings, making mud, and carrying/breaking
rock. The town I live in was built in the late 1800's
out of White River Limestone by imported Irish Masons.
It has more limestone retaining walls than anywhere I
know of. My advise if you want to learn how to lay rock
is to labor for a stonemason. A brickmason will do at
first just to get exp. in making mud and setting up
scaffold.
