I wouldn't recommend messing around with the OpenSolaris underpinning or you'll brick your appliance. Everything in FW (including network set up) is stuffed into a SVC manifest. Also, parts of the OS read-only to keep you from bricking it. The layout and configuration of FW is very different from a normal Solaris box.
