shows a better explanation of what's going on.

The blacklist doesn't actually prevent the device from being used, it
just sets the number of PMP ports to the proper value based on the
blacklist. So even if it's a blacklisted device, it should still work
but the warning "!Port multiplier is on the blacklist." will show up
in dmesg or /var/adm/messages.
