Yes your correct, it should work, let me rephrase. Having a return code of 
something other that the default value 0x06 from control register addr 2 is a a 
good indication that the firmware of the device needs work. The 3726 will 
likely not work correctly in the event that the firmware is not updated. So 
unfortunately we need to get a correct response from the status and control 
register and hard coding a value is certainly not going to help with that. 
Since there are some known firmware issues out there it would be better to 
error on a bad return value when its other than the expected default of 0x06, 
or how about just accepting the bad value returned and leave the user a warning 
to investigate the potential hardware issue.

In this case the 3726 was working until the blacklist addition came into play 
in b125 so I'm thinking that is the root at this point.
