You don't have to use MySQL, you can use PostgreSQL instead ;-) actually, it
also has a CSV mode, but this tends to be slow. It's not bad installing
mysql for mail. Many machines already have it for web work anyway so it
takes very little to use it for mail

Balsa's integration with GnomeCard is nice, but it's somewhat flaky at
times, at least it was for me. Also, making a hierarchical folder display in
Balsa depends on the directory structure of your mail directory. Not a very
elegant solution to what is essentially just a UI organization issue. Once
Balsa fixes a few UI issues like this and some others, it will be a client
to be reckoned with.
KMail just plain sux. Importing mail from another program is awkward. You
have to create a new email account to do it. You can't just create a folder
and assign it to the mbox file like you can in Balsa. KMail does have some
nice features, but it has a long way to go IMHO.

Try searching freshmeat. There are hundreds, so recommending ONE is hard. I
like pronto and use it myself, but Balsa comes in a close second. Evolution
will be nice when finished, but lack of Exchange Server support means it
will have problems in the corp. world unless they change the server
environment.
