Kevin:

I think we all know what Aron meant in asking about a biochar stove. His first message, responded to by Erin, was very clear. You are creating considerable confusion with two comments I respond to below.

# With all due respect, I believe it is your position that charcoal should not be used as fuel, but rather, it should all be used as biochar. It is not at all clear that Aron wishes to design a stove for the production of charcoal, or, if he wishes to use charcoal as a fuel. Referring to his posting to Erin, from below:
">>> I am desgining a biochar and i need plans from where to start.
Can you please email me plans for Anila And Anderson TLUD biochar
stove, please Look forward to hearing from you soon.
kind regards
He does not say what he wishes to design, only that he would like to receive plans for a TLUD, so that he has some place to start. However, he does say in another message that his design is similar to a rocket stove, that clearly is intended to burn burn a fuel, with no charcoal production.

# Aron: Could you please clarify if you wish to design an improved stove system for producing residual charcoal, for use as biochar, OR, if you wish to design an improved stove system to use charcoal as fuel.

# Thanks!

Kevin

Dear Ron

Aron:

Can you clarify your intended design? I know of no way that you can
turn a rocket stove into a char-making stove (but would love to hear
differently).

# A "char making stove" is only relevant in a case where the person
wants a cooking/heating function, and ending up with a charcoal
residue is acceptable or desirable. In many cases, the production of
residual charcoal is undesirable.

# There is a lot of confusion with the term "biochar stove."
1: It is not possible to have a "biochar stove." One can certainly
have a stove that produces "charcoal", but charcoal only becomes
"biochar" when it is used in an agricultural application . A TLUD stove
is not a "biochar stove"... it is a stove that produces charcoal that
may or may not end up being used as biochar.
2: In that we have a "wood stove", a "kerosene stove", a "charcoal
stove", etc, the term "biochar stove" could simply be a stove that is
fueled with char, charcoal, biochar , etc.
[RWL: You (correctly) denied this sentence 's validity with your above ( now-underlined, italicized and bolded ) phrase. Fueling a stove with biochar is not an "agricultural application". .

# Is Aron perhaps designing a stove that is fueled with charcoal?
[RWL: Obviously not - see his first message (below) to the list. I wish that whole topic could disappear from this list - as it is usually so wasteful of biomass. Ron]

Can you help me on how to analyse heat tranfer through a cone... Im
designing a Biochar stove with coencentric cylinders. In essence its a
rocket stove. I want to make the inner cylinder conic so that i can retain
more heat in the stove....
The books i have read dont show me how to analyse conduction and convection
in a cone...
Will need a reply as soon as possible, if your able to help.
Thank you in advance...

Plans for the Anila stove are here:

I hope that helps, let me know if I can be of any assitance.
