A better place to live than Minneapolis. Good police, good fire department. School district is working hard with many obstacles to succeed, despite no money. Infrastructure repair is non-existent and roads need attention. An enigma politically, you either have to be born here to have any clout politically, unless you are a transplant from New York, for some reason, New York transplants have an inside track. Don't ask me why. The Chamber runs the town, much to the chagrin of the citizens who pay high property taxes and get little service for them. Dead downtown despite the Xcel resurgence. You could shoot a cannon down any street at 8:00 PM on a Friday night and not risk hitting any life forms. Small town feel, great neighborhoods which is enigmatic considering the Chamber has more clout than the average citizen.
Some major environmental problems that need attention, the ethanol plant which is considered a toxic site if you look at the Minnesota Department of Health web site. The mayor and city council need to get the cohunes to shut it down, before they completely ruin a great neighborhood. (My idea: Renovate the old Brewery into a great hotel and office space, make the old tasting house a great bar and grill with trolley service to the State Capitol, downtown Saint Paul with special trips to The Wild games, and if you don't want a hotel, make the space into upscale condominium lofts. That is the hot thing to do right now, or how about one better, renovate it for low cost rentals or condominiums with a main floor shopping area, you know, grocery, pharmacy, dry cleaning, great family restaurant). Come on we can be a bit more creative than ethanol. If you read the research it isn't even a good fuel source. Ramsey County composting program is completely dangerous, and that is why I try to mulch rather than add to the problem. The Mississippi River needs serious attention. Great museums, historic sites, hockey, great parks a free zoo, wonderful ethnic culture. Three great hospitals in close proximity. Now if you could afford them without insurance, then we'd have something. Great location, you can get anywhere worth getting to in the metro area within thirty minutes or so.
