The average daily traffic (ADT) along I-35E is pushing 100,000 cars. Every day. I am not sure what the ADT is for Lexington, but I would guess it is between 20,000 and 30,000 based on the size of the road and so on (West Seventh is 20,000). Granted, there's less idling, but when you have 3-5 times the number of cars you do have about 3-5 times the pollution. That's the real problem with freeways like that -- they are concentrated pockets of pollution in the middle of the city.
