I am really sick of the fiction propagated by Tom Swift and his ilk that
business people are conservative republicans and progressives are always
busy sucking on the public teet.

In thirty years of supporting myself, I worked as an employee for only
seven years. I've started many different businesses, and never asked the
gubmint for anything. I consider myself a progressive democrat. I don't
identify myself as a businessman or an entrepeneur. I don't belong to the
Chamber of Commerce, and I don't vote republican.

The reason people think of Businesspeople as Republicans is because those
people are always trying to get government to do things that will help
them make money. They identify Making Money as the only valid object of
good social policy. They are against anything that is good for people but
bad for business. They want more smoke in our air, more mercury in our
water and less rights for workers.
