I haven't been to the farmers market in years. when I
was working in DT mpls, they had all i needed every
thursday on the mall.
before I reply I am making some assumptions. Not all
stalls at the farmers market sell fresh produce or
other food product. I know at the market on lyndale
there is a guy selling tie dye clothes. Now I assume
any political party could apply for a stall and setup
shop at the market to get out their message and
collect donations. From what I read here, the group
controlling the stalls declines political groups as is
their right I beleive. So, if this is the case, why
should they be allowed to hang out on the sidewalk and
stump for money and the like? I don't think they are
exercising their free speech rights but conducting
business. The party in question is conducting the
business of collecting money for the DNC. This is
different than the mayor or candidates walking through
the market. they are not conducting fund raising. I
think this is the difference.
the hot dog vendor analogy isn't too far off, if my
assumptions are correct. I love free speech as much
as the next guy, maybe more so. These people seem to
be selling something not simply spreading the word.
speaking of spreading the word, are there "prophets"
or whatever they are called wandering the market
spreading the word? Not sure how I am trying to link
this but it seems relevent to me.
