There is an organization called Democrats for Life and Randy C. Kelly is one of its
members.

This is no big deal, just an issue group of Democrats who are against choice in the
abortion debate. You find these internal conflicts all the time in political parties,
like Republicans who actually do want a balanced budget.

Dave Shove's allegation is that when Vance Opperman doesn't like the
candidate nominated/endorsed by the St. Paul DFL by whatever process, he contributes
heavily to the opposition. That's a nasty little internal dynamic for the DFL to
overcome.
_______________
Cross that off your list of things to do, since it doesn't happen. Vance Opperman's
support is driven by his own choices. The party, though delegates selected in all
wards of the City, endorses candidates and, when it suits people, they challenge the
endorsed candidate. Just to go back to the mayoral race of 2001, and you will find
two Democrats challenging the endorsed candidate. I'm happy to say that they finished
1, 2, and 3 in the primary balloting.
In the Senate and Gubernatorial (I just love saying that) races as far back as I can
remember there have been challengers to the party- endorsed candidates (anybody
remember Jerry Janezich?). Ironically, given your complaints against parties, the
primary election process was adopted as a check to the power of party leaders. The
intent was that individual party members should be able to ratify or reject the
endorsed candidates. If memory serves, primaries (as well as other electoral reforms)
were introduced in the 1890's to correct this problem.
