Wouldn't it be interesting if the "don't vote" billboards were the kickoff
for a tremendously effective get-out-the-vote campaign? I know, I'm probably
hopelessly naive and foolish, but I'm not yet cynical enough to think
they're sincere. This is still Minnesota and we do still live in St. Paul
and the majority of people here still really do believe in the importance of
exercising that right and fulfilling that responsibility.

The concept reminds me of the target market anti-tobacco/smoking ads done by
youth in the last few years (until funding was abruptly and unjustly cut).
They were measurably very successful with their target audiences and used a
number of fresh and innovative attention-grabbing tactics to do so.

So I think about "don't vote" text, soon to be followed by something like,
"if you want all those other people deciding YOUR future." Or any of a dozen
other tag lines that focus on the historical or prospective consequences of
not voting, and that indeed are effective in encouraging people to vote.

We'll all see soon enough, but I sure hope I'm right on this one!
