15 years? I thought site councils were launched circa 1998.

Even so, the math is impressive. With my more conservative numbers, there
is now a cadre of 6,750 Saint Paul people intimately familiar with the
complexities of school operations in our culturally rich community (est 15
people x
75 school x 6 years).

The question is, who are they? How do we get in touch with those still
plugged in (though not necessarily still serving on a site council)?

THESE are the logical people to ask to participate in this conversation.
THEY'RE the ones who can tell us "What have we lost?" because they know what
we had before the past 5 years and $50 million of cuts.

There isn't a school in the system that hasn't lost something important to
them over the past five years. The question is, how do we collect the stories?

For example, French Immersion lost a wonderful curriculum exchange program
with a school in Switzerland. Had to send the Swiss teachers back; didn't
meet NCLB "high qualified teacher" requirements because they weren't trained in

the U.S.

Whether it to budget cuts or accountability reforms, we need to get a grip
on what were losing so we can begin telling the stories.

Just my 2c.
